LumBearJack Work Weekend 2014

LumBearJack Work Weekend

Thursday, November 6 at 1pm to Sunday, November 9 at 4pm
on The Land aka Amber Fox

Okay bears and lumberjacks, are you ready to fell one last tree and cuddle one last cub before winter sets in? Then join us once more on the Land aka AmBearFox.

Each day we will chop trees, cut firewood, clear brush, and just generally do butch, he-man sorts of jobs. Then each night we will make the most out of our last moments together on the Land in 2014.

There is plenty of room for tenting along the Path of the Snake and in the May Pole field. The cooler nights will encourage some to opt for snuggling in the Bunkhouse, and if it is very cold, the Departure Lounge and even the sauna can hold extra sleepers!

The weather may be chilly, so you should check the weather forecast before you pack.

Why is this called a "Work Weekend" not a "Gathering"?

  • At a gathering, each of us is expected to help with a few chores each day. This being a work weekend, everyone who attends should plan on spending a chunk of the daylight hours working on major projects (e.g. collecting/chopping firewood, finishing the Meditation Lookout), or in support activities (e.g. cleaning, cooking, dishes).
  • At a gathering, the suggested purse contribution is $25 per night. For this weekend, the suggestion is $10 per night ($30 for the full weekend). No one is turned away for lack of funds, but we ask that you contribute something, even if you can only afford a few dollars per night. It is also helpful if you can make your contribution when you arrive, so it can be used for shopping.
  • Meat. Yep, meat! This is your one official Amber Fox event where the Erection will be filled with the scents of bacon and brisket, the squeals of the soon-to-be-supper, and the sparkling crimson jet of the severed carotid. We few vegetarians will be hiding under the table in the corner, quietly nibbling our lettuce & rice cakes, and hoping that the livestock holds out.
  • No morning circles. We will plan the next day at each dinner circle.
  • No organized daytime recreational activities.

But don't be thinking this weekend will be all work! 'Cuz you know da Fae like to partay, so after the dinner dishes are done, be prepared!

Dancing in the Departure Lounge? Up to us. Sauna, bonfire, ritual? Up to us. Tent party? Up to us. Chances are there will be a Know Talent Show, but once again, it's ... up to us! And as always, thanks to the only real Trudeau, what goes on in the privacy of our own tents is nobody's business but our own. ;)

This event is for gay and queer men.

Thanksgiving Gathering 2014

Thanksgiving Gathering

Friday, October 10 at 1pm to Monday, October 13 at 3pm
on The Land aka Amber Fox

Imagine the Land in Technicolor! Seventy-five acres of rolling hills and valleys, painted with the brilliant fall colours of maple, larch, oak and elm. All that is missing is you.

The days are getting shorter and the nights colder, so it is time to snuggle up with your Faerie brethren, party in the Departure Lounge, roast by the fire and steam in the sauna.

The Land and the weather were simply stunning at last year's Thanksgiving Gathering, so don't miss out this year! And remember, this is your last chance to attend a Gathering on the Land aka Amber Fox in 2014.

Each day at the Gathering begins with a Circle.  The Circle starts with a brief organizational meeting, followed by a longer Heart Circle (aka group therapy session, aka bitch fest, aka story time, aka ...). All faeries are strongly encouraged to attend at least the beginning part of the Circle. This is where new faeries are introduced, the day's activities are finalized, plans for the rest of the Gathering are made, grievances are aired, and policies are debated. It is the place where YOU get to have your say in how the Gathering is shaped. You won't want to miss it!

Some activities are already planned:
The rest is up to us: crafts, mud wrestling, face painting, ritual & magick, drumming & meditation, fashion shows at the Foxy Boutique, anything we can imagine or desire. The activities depend entirely on what those who attend are willing and able to organize, so get your thinking caps on and join the discussion on Facebook if you would like to help plan.

The play is shared and so is the work. There are no paid staff on the Land, so everyone needs to help out with a few chores each day to make the Gathering go smoothly. Washing dishes, preparing meals, chopping wood, mowing lawns, tidying and cleaning, repairs, new construction ... it's all up to us. But the work becomes play when shared with your fae friends!

As well as help with the chores that keep the Land going, we rely on contributions to the Purse for food, fuel for the pump & lawn mowers, propane for the fridge & stove, paint, materials for repairs, paper products and all our other mundane needs. We use an honour system with a suggested contribution of $25 per night, more if you can or less if you can't.  For example, if you are coming for the whole Gathering (3 nights) we suggest a $75 contribution. No one is turned away for lack of funds, but we ask that you contribute something, even if you can only afford a few dollars per night. It is also helpful if you can make your contribution near the beginning of the Gathering, as that is when most of the shopping is done.

The meals are vegetarian, communal and delicious. The Erection contains a fully appointed kitchen, and we are always looking for chefs, assistants, and learners. Whether you want to plan a whole meal, create a single dish, or help chop ingredients, we've got you covered! This time of year, the Land is brimming over with fresh veggies just begging to be eaten. The "traditional" (yet meatless) Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday will be a work of many hands, so bring your favourite Thanksgiving recipes.

There is plenty of room for tenting along the Path of the Snake and in the May Pole field. There is also room for some to sleep in the Bunkhouse (though this is on a first-come first-served basis and space is limited). Make sure you bring a warm sleeping bag or plenty of blankets! If the weather is very cold, the Departure Lounge and even the sauna become snuggly sleeping quarters.

This Gathering is for those who identify as gay or queer men.

Remember this is eastern Ontario in the autumn, so check the weather forecast and bring appropriate clothing. If this is your first gathering, be sure to check out what to bring.
