Faeries in De Nile 2016

Hosanna

On Friday, January 22nd, the fae folk will be heading to Ottawa, to see ToToToo Theatre's production of Hosanna, the iconic work by celebrated Canadian playwright Michel Tremblay.

Tremblay wrote Hosanna in 1973. The story takes place in Montreal and centres on the relationship between Hosanna, a drag queen dressed as Elizabeth Taylor's Cleopatra, and Cuirette, an aging "stud" and gay biker. This play takes place in Hosanna's apartment, "somewhere in the Plaza Saint-Hubert", after she and Cuirette have returned from a Halloween party.

The play deals with several issues including gender identity, sexual identity, the ignorance and acceptance of ageing, and social expressions of homosexuality. Hosanna discusses her relationship with her mother and shows her anxieties over her knowledge of who she really is.

Two of our fae friends, Dragon and Rock, are working on this show, and, as seems to be the case with all the productions they get involved in, this play features FULL FRONTAL NUDITY!!! ;)

The venue, LIVE! On Elgin is described as "intimate", and this promises to be a very popular show, so you will want to order your tickets online as soon as possible.

There is no reserved seating, so we will be meeting at the theatre (220 Elgin Street) at 7pm to pick up our tickets and find good seats.

Cleo's Potluck

The next afternoon, Dragon has invited all of us to join him in his lair, for a feast of epic proportions. Dragon's Den offers commanding views, draconic art, and a sensual ambiance. Plus it is centrally located, literally steps from the Smyth transit stop.

This will be a fabulous faerie potluck brunch, so bring your favourite vegetarian dishes, YOB, your ancient Egyptian finery, and your sybaritic appetites!

Please join hosts Dragon & the Demon Child Ryan, from noon to 5pm on Saturday, January 23rd, at Dragon's Den, 1785 Riverside Drive, Ottawa.

And remember, de Nile ain't just a river in Egypt! Indulge responsibly.

If you are a member of our Facebook Group, you can RSVP for Hosanna and Cleo's Potluck. Otherwise, please email if you need the suite number and contact info for Dragon's Den.

A Very Faerie Solstice Party 2015

The aka Amber Fox gathering season has ended once again, and the Land will be cold & dark until May, when we gather together to celebrate Queen Vicky's birthday.
But fear not,
Faeries will frolic!!!

Thanks to the efforts of the indefatigable Demon Child Ryan, and to the generosity of the hosts (Paul, Dragon, LuLu, & the MudHouse gang), each month will feature a different Faerie event: parties, plays, potlucks, rituals, picnics, and even a midwinter Gatherette!

To kick off the "off season" in high gear, we are pleased to invite you all to the third annual Very Faerie Solstice Party:

A Very Faerie Solstice Party

Saturday, December 19th, 2015
8:00 pm to 2:00 am
in Toronto, Ontario

As always, the party will feature fun, fellowship, music (not to worry - we're having the piano tuned), Departure Lounge West, and the Ruby Balcony (aka Red Light District)!

Sweet & savoury snacks, coffees, teas, juice & soft drinks, and a festive holiday punch will be provided. Otherwise, it's BYOB. If you would like to contribute a vegetarian snack or dessert, you have our thanks.

So, for an evening of glitz, garlands & glamour, join your hosts Paul, DeeDee, & the Demon Child Ryan, at the infamous Vaseline Tower, in the heart of Toronto's queer village.

If you are a member of our Facebook Group, you can RSVP to the Facebook Event. Otherwise, please email if you need directions or contact information. If you live outside of Toronto and are looking for somewhere to crash, you can post a request in the Facebook Event, or contact us well in advance, and we will try to arrange overnight accommodations.

LumBearJack Work Weekend 2015

LumBearJack Work Weekend

Thursday November 5th at 1pm to Sunday November 8th at 4pm
on The Land aka Amber Fox

Okay bears and lumberjacks, are you ready to fell one last tree and cuddle one last cub before winter sets in? The gathering season is over, but you can join your fae brethren once more this year on the Land aka AmBearFox.

Why is this called a "Work Weekend" not a "Gathering"?
  • At a gathering, everyone is expected to help with a few chores each day. This being a work weekend, everyone who attends should plan on spending a chunk of the daylight hours working on major projects (e.g. collecting/chopping firewood, construction work), or in support activities (e.g. cleaning, cooking, dishes).
  • At a gathering, the suggested purse contribution is $25 per night. For this weekend, the suggestion is $10 per night ($30 for the full weekend). No one is turned away for lack of funds, but we ask that you contribute something, even if you can only afford a few dollars per night. It is also helpful if you can make your contribution when you arrive, so it can be used for shopping.
  • Meat. Yep, meat! This is the one official Amber Fox event where the Erection will be filled with the scents of bacon and brisket, the squeals of the soon-to-be-supper, and the sparkling crimson jet of the severed carotid. The few vegetarians will be hiding under the table in the corner, quietly nibbling on lettuce & rice cakes, and hoping that the livestock holds out. ;)
  • No morning circles. The next day's activities will be planned at each dinner circle.
  • No organized daytime recreational activities.

But it won't be all work! Like other events on the Land, you can expect:
  • crisp autumn days
  • fabulous fae frolicking
  • 75 acres of faerie land
  • Know Talent Show
  • saunas
  • bonfires
  • dressing up at the Foxy Boutique
  • magick & ritual
  • partying in the Departure Lounge
  • anything the fae heart can imagine!

There is plenty of room for the hardy to tent along the Path of the Snake and in the May Pole field. But many will choose to snuggle in the Bunkhouse or the Departure Lounge. Make sure you bring a warm sleeping bag and plenty of warm clothes!

If this is your first faerie event, or your first visit to the Land aka Amber Fox:

This event is for gay and queer men.

If you are a member of our Facebook Group, you can RSVP to the Facebook Event. Otherwise, please email to obtain directions and contact information.

Thanksgiving Gathering 2015

Thanksgiving Gathering

Friday October 9th at 1pm to Monday October 12th at 4pm
on The Land aka Amber Fox

Imagine the Land in Technicolor! Seventy-five acres of rolling hills and valleys, painted with the brilliant fall colours of maple, larch, oak and elm. And best of all ... no mosquitos!!!

For those who have been to a gathering on the Land aka Amber Fox before, you will know what to expect:
  • crisp autumn days
  • Saturday night's Know Talent Show
  • communal gourmet vegetarian meals, including Sunday's Thanksgiving feast!
  • saunas
  • bonfires
  • heart circles
  • dressing up at the Foxy Boutique
  • magick & ritual
  • working in fellowship with your fae kin
  • partying in the Departure Lounge
  • meditating in the nearly-completed Meditation Saucer
  • trip to the market
  • anything the fae heart can imagine!

Remember, there are no paid staff here. Everything that manifests depends on faerie volunteer energy, and contributions to the purse:
  • washing dishes, preparing meals, planning events, chopping wood, mowing lawns, tidying and cleaning, repairs, new construction ... it's all up to us
  • but the work becomes play when shared with your fae friends!
  • the Purse relies on donations for the food we eat, fuel for the pump & lawn mowers, propane for the fridge & stove, insurance, candles, paper products, and all our other mundane needs
  • the suggested contribution is $25 per night, more if you can or less if you can't, and no one is turned away for lack of funds
  • we ask that everyone contribute some cash, even if you can only afford five or ten dollars per night
  • it is also helpful if you can make your contribution when you arrive at the gathering, so that it can be used at the next shopping trip

There is plenty of room for tenting along the Path of the Snake and in the May Pole field. There is also room for some to sleep in the Bunkhouse (though this is on a first-come first-served basis and space is limited). Make sure you bring a warm sleeping bag or plenty of blankets! If the weather is very cold, the Departure Lounge and even the sauna can become snuggly sleeping quarters.

If this is your first faerie event, or your first visit to the Land aka Amber Fox:

This event is for gay and queer men.

If you are a member of our Facebook Group, you can RSVP to the Facebook Event. Otherwise, please email to obtain directions and contact information.

_____

Dragon is unable to attend this gathering because he will be in Ottawa helping out with a ToTo Too Theatre production.  The play is Love! Valour! Compassion!, and a number of fae folk will be going to see the show the night before the gathering begins. And not just because it features full frontal nudity! ;)

If you would like to join the group, you can order your tickets online and meet at the theatre before the show on Thursday, October 8th. Visit Toto Too Theatre's website for information about the show.

Two New Events!! F7 & Canada Day!!!

Hello Fellow Faeries!

I have WONDERFUL news! I, the Demon Child Ryan, have been hard at work figuring out new events for February and Canada Day! I am happy to report that I’ve succeeded!!

F7 Gatherette
February 12-15, 2016

I found a wonderful place to hold the F7 Gatherette! It is a magical setting in Maynooth called Furs & Maples. I have been there four times in the past and it is beautiful! It is a large piece of private land on a lake surrounded by hills and forest, that used to be a holiday rental property. The couple who live there are wonderfully welcoming people who now only rent to alternative groups. In other words, our Faerie drag and nudity are something they are already used to!

The best thing is, since the main cottage is winterized, we won’t have to cancel the gathering no matter how bad the weather gets!!

Lucas has even offered to let us use the two showers in his house!! And there is indoor plumbing for toilets too! Feel free to go to the Furs & Maples website to see photos and get more info.

Because it’s off-season and we’ll have to use buckets of water to flush toilets in the main cabin, Lucas will give us a great deal on the rental!!  Based on the budget I’m currently putting together, it looks like we’ll be able to pay for both rental and all ingredients for our meals if everyone contributes $25 per night, so it will be the same as the gatherings on the Land aka Amber Fox!! YAY!!!!

I’ll do a full post later with more details but wanted to let everyone know that F7 is DEFINITELY happening, so mark your calendars for February 12-15 for the first ever F7 Gatherette!!! YAY!!!!

Canada Day Beach Blanket Babylon, BBQ & Fireworks
July 1st, 2016

I was talking with Claro and he mentioned how much fun it was going to the Toronto islands, enjoying the beach, and having food. Another friend had mentioned that this year he had a great time seeing the fireworks from Lake Ontario. Claro and I came up with the idea that since the Canada Day Gathering on the Land aka Amber Fox has been cancelled, we could invite all the Faeries to have a wonderful time on Toronto Island for Canada Day!!

We’ll meet at the clothing optional beach and enjoy the sun and the sand. Later, we’ll all meet at one of the BBQ’s (I’m currently looking into how we reserve one) where we’ll have a delicious meal. After eating we’ll grab a spot along the shore of the island overlooking the city where we’ll watch the beautiful fireworks before taking the ferry back to the city. It will be a wonderful way to enjoy nature during the day, a communal meal in the evening, and a fabulously colourful display at night!

I hope you all can join us!!

Feel free to send me any questions, comments, or ideas you have for these events!!

Check out the full events schedule for 2016!

See you at High Summer on the Land aka Amber Fox in a few days!!!

Beltane: a Time for Transformation

May Pole Ritual 2015

Beltane is a time for transformation. The wheel of the year turns swiftly then, the seasons change, the darkness wanes, the land begins to waken from its winter slumber.

The Beltane Gathering is a favourite for many of the fae folk. For some, because it is our annual gender inclusive event on the Land aka Amber Fox, and for others, because it is when we raise the May Pole in the May Pole Field.

But each year, we depend on the vagaries of the Canadian climate for good weather. This year, Beltane was a triumph, with great weather and great attendance. And the May Pole ritual, led by Smith, taught us new correspondences from local native traditions. Plus the pole itself is neatly woven like never before!

But last year, it was cold and rainy and only a handful of fae attended. And it was too rainy to raise the May Pole at all - we ended up doing it at Victoria Day!

May Pole Ritual 2013

And this year we just got back from the first gender inclusive 4th of July gathering, and it was a tremendous success!

So for 2016 and future years, the Canada Day / 4th of July gathering will become our annual gender inclusive event on the Land. The Victoria Day gathering will now be our first gathering each year, when we are more assured of good weather, and the May Pole can be raised then.

But fear not! Beltane will not be abandoned. We will celebrate Beltane in Ottawa, perhaps joining a pagan or Wiccan ritual already planned, or perhaps creating our own unique faerie celebration in a local park.

Then of course, because we do love to cook and eat, we will have a potluck at the home of one of the local faeries. ;)

Bright Beltane Blessings upon us all!

Amber Fox Goes Monthly!

Announcing Three New Annual Radical Faerie Events!

Over the past decade, the activities of our local Radical Faerie community have expanded from two or three gatherings on the Land aka Amber Fox each year, to a full five gatherings plus a work weekend an the Land, plus the intention to have a winter gatherette (although the weather-gods have not yet seen fit to grant us a mild enough February), plus an annual winter solstice party at Vaseline Towers in Toronto, plus staffing the Canadian Consulate at the Blue Heron Gathering in upstate New York at the annual gathering in August.

So it occurred to the demon child Ryan, that if we added just a few new events, then there would be an Amber Fox Radical Faerie community event every month!

And so, we are pleased to announce three new annual events:

  • in Toronto, a fall equinox pot luck at Vaseline Towers, hosted by Paul, Ryan & DeeDee
  • in Ottawa, a winterfest theatre trip to see another of Dragon's fabulously naked shows, and a PeachPit pot luck hosted by John and Peaches the following day
  • in Toronto, a March Madness MudHouse pot luck, hosted by Grey, Claro, Smith and the rest of the MudHoosians
This brings us up to an even dozen annual events, one each month - if you are a bit free with the calendar - and we all know how fluid faerie time can be! ;)

Big fae thank-yous to the hosts who will open their homes to our Radical Faerie tribe!

More details to follow soon.
