Canada Day, often referred to as "Canada's birthday", marks the joining of the British colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada (Ontario & Quebec) into the Dominion of Canada on July 1, 1867. Originally called Dominion Day, the holiday was renamed in 1982, the year the Canada Act superseded the British North America Act as the country's constitution.

There is no standard formula for Canada Day celebrations. In various communities across the country, the day is observed with parades, carnivals, festivals, barbecues, bonfires, air & maritime shows, fireworks, free musical concerts, as well as citizenship ceremonies for new citizens.

Who are the Foxy Faeries?

The Foxy Faeries are a kink-friendly group of Radical Faeries in northern Ontario. What does “kink-friendly” mean? Well for starters, all of the founding members are happily kinky folks. They want Foxy Faeries Gatherings to be a kink-positive, nudity-positive, sex-positive space.

But the group is new! Come join us and help define and discover who we are, and what we can become!!!

Foxy Faeries events are open to all those of fae heart, the fae-allied and the fae-curious, regardless of gender or orientation.

What Will Happen at the Gathering?

• We yoo-hoo and we circle, we work and we play.
• Most of us camp, but there is room for some in the Foxes Den.
• We enjoy communal vegetarian meals.
• There are some traditional events, like the Sunday afternoon Know Talent Show. Can you sing, dance, recite a poem or play an instrument? If so, we would love to have you join us on stage! A bit shy but want to try? Talk to the show’s organizers and they will be sure to find a suitable role for you. More of a watcher than a performer? An appreciative audience is the other essential ingredient for this popular event.

• Others activities are more spontaneous, like:
  • saunas
  • bonfires
  • swimming & boating in the private lake
  • exploring the island
  • hikes & games
  • mud wrestling & oatmeal rubs
  • ritual, magick, meditation
  • drumming & chanting
  • story time & naps
  • spa days, face painting
  • crafts, painting, glitter workshops
  • theme parties with outrageous couture
  • concerts or karaoke
• What activities will happen depends entirely on those who attend.
• If we can dream it, we can be it, but only if we find the faerie energy to make it manifest.

Where Does the Gathering Take Place?

The Foxy Faeries Canada Day Gathering takes place at Fox's Haven, a beautiful campground situated on a 120 acre private property in West Nipissing, Ontario, about a 5 hour drive from Ottawa, 4 and a half hours from Toronto, 3 hours from Barrie, and an hour from Sudbury or North Bay.

Fox’s Haven includes a beautiful lake and island, is criss-crossed by numerous trails, has lovely pine and birch forests, and features beautiful granite rock outcroppings of the Canadian Shield.

The land is completely private so you can enjoy dressing up in your most stunning and fabulous clothes, or dressing down to nothing at all, without worry of outsiders. There are boats that all attendees are free to use to explore the private lake, see the water lilies, row over to the island, and maybe even get the chance to wave at the beavers as they work.

There are two permanent buildings, the Foxes Den, in which some attendees sleep, and the main cabin, which includes a full kitchen.  There are two outhouses, outdoor showers, three large campfires, and numerous trails with forty campsites.

Want to Attend? Here's How!

In order to attend a Foxy Faeries gathering, the first step is to register by paying a deposit in the online shop. This deposit covers the cost of renting the campground only. The deposit is $50 per person for camping, or $75 per person sleeping in the Foxes den, for the long weekend.

The address will be sent to those who have registered by paying the deposit, one week before the gathering begins.

In addition to the deposit (which only covers the rent), every attendee is asked to bring cash to help feed the Purse. She’s always hungry! The Purse covers the cost of food, propane for the portable fire ring & BBQ, fire logs for the sauna, gas for the generator and any other expenses we run into. Because we don't want finances to be a barrier to attending our events, we use an honour system, with the Purse kept in a central location in the main cabin, and ask that everyone contribute something to the purse. We suggest a $50 contribution each for the long weekend, but if you can afford more, please be generous  so that others who are able to contribute less can also attend. If you are not able to afford the suggested $50, contribute as much as you can.

Equally important is your willingness to contribute in other ways: planning, cleaning, shopping, cooking, etc. If you don't know what to do, just ask. One of the most enjoyable aspects of our created community is working on projects with your fellow Faeries.

Once again Canada Day is fast approaching, and once again the Faeries will be celebrating Canada's birthday with a getaway to the Toronto Islands. So join us for another fun-filled day of picnicking, rides, boating, nude beaches, and of course, fireworks!

We have secured the same picnic spot as last year on Olympic island, just a few minutes walk from the Centre Island ferry dock. The site has both a barbecue and a fire-pit, and the view of the city is amazing! It's located near all the amenities: restroom, amusement park, boat rentals, restaurants and bars. And, it's only a short walk to Hanlan's Point for afternoon skinny dipping!

Somebody will be at the picnic spot all day from 10:00 am on. There will be side trips to Hanlan's point, the amusement park, and other attractions on the islands, but there will always be someone at the site, so feel free to show up there at any time.

All the fae folk will be coming back from all parts of the islands for a potluck supper starting around 6:00 pm. Don't forget to bring a dish to share! We can use the barbecue, so remember that when choosing your dish. After dark, we're going to do a fabulous and festive bonfire with DeeDee's magic colourful fire sticks! Lastly, the fireworks will go off over the city at Harbourfront, directly across from our picnic spot. Let's hope they are as spectacular as last year!!! Afterwards, all us Faeries will take the ferry back to the city.

If you can pitch in to help with the cost of the site rental, that would be great! The suggested contribution is $10 per person (more if you can, less if you can't).

• Visit the amusement park, rent a boat, or just enjoy the day relaxing on the grass
• Have delicious food
• Enjoy the bonfire & watch the fireworks!!

2. The Polydactyl Kitty Plan

• Take the ferry to Ward Island (A)
• Walk 5 minutes to the local beach
• Play with the polydactyl kitties!!!
• Walk 20 minutes to our picnic site (C)
• Have delicious food
• Enjoy the bonfire & watch the fireworks!!

3. The Polar Bear Plan

• Take the ferry to the Hanlan's Point Ferry Dock (H)
• Walk 15 minutes to the clothing optional beach (I)
• Bask bare on the beautiful beach with bodacious bears
• Walk 30 minutes to our picnic site (C)
• Have delicious food
• Enjoy the bonfire & watch the fireworks!!

UPDATE: May 16, 2017

As you may have heard, much of Toronto island is underwater because of spring flooding, and they've delayed opening the park. Currently they say the park is closed until June 30th, which means it should be open JUST IN TIME for our picnic on July 1st!!! More details here. I will keep you posted when I hear any more updates.  DeeDee

Things aren't looking good! But we still have not received official notice that the park is closed beyond June 30th. So if anybody is feeling especially full of faerie magic, or knows any lake-drying spells ...

HI All!!

Canada Day is almost upon us!!  Come join the Faeries for a fun-filled excursion to the Toronto Islands for boating, nude beaches, barbecues, and fireworks!!

A picnic spot has been reserved on Olympic island for all of Canada Day! The site has both a barbecue and a fire-pit!! It's a short walk to Hanlan's Point for afternoon skinny dipping and it will have a great view for the fireworks in the evening!!! The site is perfect cause it's also right next to everything like the washrooms, snack bar, and cocktail bar too!!

Someone will be at the picnic site all day from 10:00am to 11:00pm!! People will be doing an afternoon trip to Hanlan's point but there will always be someone at the site so show up there at any time!!  Everyone will be coming back from all parts of the islands for a potluck BBQ supper which will start at 6:00pm. After, we're going to do a fabulous and festive bonfire with DeeDee's magic colourful fire sticks!!  Lastly, the fireworks will go off over the city - 10pm at Ashbridges Bay, and 10:40 at Harbourfront, directly across the harbour from our picnic site!!! Then, all us Faeries will take the ferry back to the city (last one at 11:45)!!!

Also, please make note of the rules the City of Toronto requires us to follow when using the picnic site.

And don't forget that it is Pride Week here in Toronto!!  On Sunday, the Radical Faeries have been invited to march in the parade with the Toronto Sisters of JOY.  Their them is Sacred Whores of the Well Hung Gardens of Babylon - We had such a great time marching two years ago in World Pride and going with the Sisters this year should be super-fun too!!!

Two New Events!! F7 & Canada Day!!!

Hello Fellow Faeries!

I have WONDERFUL news! I, the Demon Child Ryan, have been hard at work figuring out new events for February and Canada Day! I am happy to report that I’ve succeeded!!

F7 Gatherette 
February 12-15, 2016

I found a wonderful place to hold the F7 Gatherette! It is a magical setting in Maynooth called Furs & Maples. I have been there four times in the past and it is beautiful! It is a large piece of private land on a lake surrounded by hills and forest, that used to be a holiday rental property. The couple who live there are wonderfully welcoming people who now only rent to alternative groups. In other words, our Faerie drag and nudity are something they are already used to!

The best thing is, since the main cottage is winterized, we won’t have to cancel the gathering no matter how bad the weather gets!!

Lucas has even offered to let us use the two showers in his house!! And there is indoor plumbing for toilets too! Feel free to go to the Furs & Maples website to see photos and get more info.

Because it’s off-season and we’ll have to use buckets of water to flush toilets in the main cabin, Lucas will give us a great deal on the rental!!  Based on the budget I’m currently putting together, it looks like we’ll be able to pay for both rental and all ingredients for our meals if everyone contributes $25 per night, so it will be the same as the gatherings on the Land aka Amber Fox!! YAY!!!!

I’ll do a full post later with more details but wanted to let everyone know that F7 is DEFINITELY happening, so mark your calendars for February 12-15 for the first ever F7 Gatherette!!! YAY!!!!


Canada Day Beach Blanket Babylon, BBQ & Fireworks

I was talking with Claro and he mentioned how much fun it was going to the Toronto islands, enjoying the beach, and having food. Another friend had mentioned that this year he had a great time seeing the fireworks from Lake Ontario. Claro and I came up with the idea that since the Canada Day Gathering on the Land aka Amber Fox has been cancelled, we could invite all the Faeries to have a wonderful time on Toronto Island for Canada Day!!

We’ll meet at the clothing optional beach and enjoy the sun and the sand. Later, we’ll all meet at one of the BBQ’s (I’m currently looking into how we reserve one) where we’ll have a delicious meal. After eating we’ll grab a spot along the shore of the island overlooking the city where we’ll watch the beautiful fireworks before taking the ferry back to the city. It will be a wonderful way to enjoy nature during the day, a communal meal in the evening, and a fabulously colourful display at night!

Beltane: a Time for Transformation

Beltane is a time for transformation. The wheel of the year turns swiftly then, the seasons change, the darkness wanes, the land begins to waken from its winter slumber.

The Beltane Gathering is a favourite for many of the fae folk. For some, because it is our annual gender inclusive event on the Land aka Amber Fox, and for others, because it is when we raise the May Pole in the May Pole Field.

But each year, we depend on the vagaries of the Canadian climate for good weather. This year, Beltane was a triumph, with great weather and great attendance. And the May Pole ritual, led by Smith, taught us new correspondences from local native traditions. Plus the pole itself is neatly woven like never before!

But last year, it was cold and rainy and only a handful of fae attended. And it was too rainy to raise the May Pole at all - we ended up doing it at Victoria Day!

And this year we just got back from the first gender inclusive 4th of July gathering, and it was a tremendous success!

So for 2016 and future years, the Canada Day / 4th of July gathering will become our annual gender inclusive event on the Land. The Victoria Day gathering will now be our first gathering each year, when we are more assured of good weather, and the May Pole can be raised then.

But fear not! Beltane will not be abandoned. We will celebrate Beltane in Ottawa, perhaps joining a pagan or Wiccan ritual already planned, or perhaps creating our own unique faerie celebration in a local park.

Then of course, because we do love to cook and eat, we will have a potluck at the home of one of the local faeries. ;)

Sometimes we Canucks get a bit confused. Like, most of us have no idea which weekend is supposed to be Canada Day Weekend when Canada Day falls on a Wednesday. So in honor [sic] of our American friends, the Land aka Amber Fox is pleased to present the first ever Fourth of July, Eh? Gathering!

For those who have been to a gathering on the Land aka Amber Fox before, you will know what to expect:

• communal gourmet vegetarian meals
• Saturday night Know Talent Show
• bonfires
• heart circles
• lazy days in the sun
• saunas
• dressing up at the Foxy Boutique
• magick & ritual
• wandering a lush 75 acre faerie land
• working in fellowship with your fae kin
• partying in the Departure Lounge
• meditating in the nearly-completed Meditation Saucer
• trip to the market 
• swimming in the nearby mighty Mississippi
• anything the fae heart can imagine!

Remember, there are no paid staff here. Everything that manifests depends on faerie volunteer energy, and contributions to the purse:

• washing dishes, preparing meals, planning events, chopping wood, mowing lawns, tidying and cleaning, repairs, new construction ... it's all up to us
• but the work becomes play when shared with your fae friends!
• the Purse relies on donations for the food we eat, fuel for the pump & lawn mowers, propane for the fridge & stove, insurance, candles, paper products, and all our other mundane needs
• the suggested contribution is $25 per night, more if you can or less if you can't, and no one is turned away for lack of funds
• we ask that everyone contribute some cash, even if you can only afford five or ten dollars per night
• it is also helpful if you can make your contribution when you arrive at the gathering, so that it can be used at the next shopping trip

Many activities are scheduled and more will be planned when we are all on the Land.  Crafts, outings, rituals … the only limits are imposed by our imaginations.  The gathering begins and ends in Circle, with brief organizational followed by longer Heart Circles on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The Meditation Hut is half-built, and with enough carpentry-Faeries it can be finished this weekend. Late night fires and saunas will heat things up.

The Land is beautiful at this time of year, and provides many awesome places to be alone or together on its 75 acres of glorious wilderness. The weather will be perfect for tenting, and should be warm enough for swimming trips to the mighty Mississippi nearby. Don't forget your sun and bug protection!

Saturday night we will enjoy the many talents the Fae folk bring to the Know Talent Show.  Can you sing, dance, recite a poem or play an instrument? Or do you have a flair for performance art? If so, we would love to have you join us on stage! A bit shy but want to try? Talk to the show's organizers and they will be sure to find a suitable role for you. More of a watcher than a performer? An appreciative audience is the other essential ingredient for this ever-popular event!

As well as supplying costumes for the show, the Foxy Boutique is available for all your dress-up needs. The Fae certainly enjoy a good outfit, so bring your gayest apparel! Boy drag, girl drag, animal drag, tree drag, baby drag, alien drag, even alien baby drag! Or in the naturist tradition, un-costuming can often be the best. It's your call.

Our communally-prepared vegetarian meals are quickly earning us a reputation as the Gourmet Gathering. Cooks, bring your favourite veggie recipes. Not up to preparing a full dish? Don't worry, there's always lots of chopping and prepping you can help with while you learn from the kitchen divas! And dish washers are always appreciated!

We do not charge a fee to attend the Gathering; instead we rely on voluntary donations of cash and labour. Suggested contribution for the Purse is $45 to $105 for the weekend (average $75 based on $25 per night, more if you can, less if you can't), or $35 for a single night. 

Equally important is your willingness to contribute in other ways: building, cleaning, shopping, cooking, etc.  If you don't know what to do to help out, just ask. One of the most enjoyable aspects of our created community is working on projects with your fellow Faeries.

Canada weekend

Canada Day weekend gatherette (July 3 - 6) begins in less than a week!

This lil guy above was caught in our live trap, meant primaily for ground hogs. Now how do we get him out? I say we let him out here and he can add to the culture of the Land!

Just a question or two on other things...

Are you ready to bring your fae energy? Do you hate mosquitoes?


If you said yes to both questions then you are ready for the Canada Day weekend. The bugs have never been better. By that I mean, its been a dang good year so far.




So remember even thoughI say it has been a great year for the lack of the pesky mosquito airforce, this is the bush in eastern Ontario and it can change overnight. Bring your light gear to wear, be prepared to wear your favourite gowns be it a spring, summer or fall outfit. It can get cool at night, though it looks to be hot. If you use bug spray, bring a good supply.

Don't forget your favourite pillow, your sleeping bag, tent if you are not in the lounge or the bunk house and remember to bring your swimming gear, a pad to sleep on, rain gear if you have it and your glad rags.




Finally, its with sad hearts we mention Michael Jackson's passing as you all know by now. I'm sure your thoughts are with his personal spiritual adviser, Father Mike. Father Mike needs to be cheered up. He and Michael were more thriller than beat it, they had it down to the ABC's. Please be prepared to help console the leader of the Alien Baby! There will be an event to commenerate the King of Pop.

Canada Day - Salopetted Cowboy or Girls

Canada Day gathering is close at hand! Are you ready! The Land is alive. Wild flowers abound, trails mowed, sauna tested and inviting, waiting to wrap you in a warm embrace.

A country and western theme dinner is on! Bring along your OVERALLS or SALOPETTES. We're sure you will right at home in or out of them. Prize for the best turned out Salopetted Cowboy or Girl!

Remember this is Ontario! We need to be ready for any weather. It could rain or be hotter than " a suana".

So a tent, fly, (for your tent not your salopette) sleeping bag, foamie or mattress, toiletries and dainties, bug spray cause being in your birthday suit can invite some unwanted bites. Sun screen, a good sun hat, rain gear if you have it, comfortable sneakers and or boots, extra socks in case they get wet, swimming outfit for the trip to our local water hole and may I suggest a decent evening outfit.

If you play an instrument bring it if you can for the know talent show.

Making it work

There is a lot of work that goes into a successful gathering. The collage below is from the Canada day Gathering, pictures from Journey!

There are haircuts, washing clothes, hauling water, drying towels, wood gathering, and of course there is the preparation of the ritual fires.

Sometime we have to move an outhouse as we manage to fill a hole every few years!
